2021—2022 annual report
Collaborate. Innovate. Lead.
OUR MISSION
Facilitate and be the catalyst for workforce development services that are responsive to the employment needs of Brevard County.
OUR VISION
A highly competitive workforce for Brevard County.
OUR IMPACT
$11.3 Million invested in employment and training services helped place 2,377 people in jobs, creating a $79.3M annualized infusion of full-time wages in Brevard County.
CareerSource Brevard’s goals focus on the quality workforce products and services offered through its three career centers, ensuring they remain relevant and in demand for Brevard’s career seekers and businesses.

Every year we work to strengthen and build our capacity to serve Brevard County’s workforce needs. This year was no different.  We expanded our apprenticeship activities and enhanced our ability to analyze labor market information, both critical to further advancing our services to businesses. After all, making sure our businesses have the talent and workforce they need, is key to maintaining a vibrant economy.

With a low unemployment rate, CareerSource Brevard focused on delivering hidden talent to our businesses. Our scholarship dollars were used to train talent in occupations that produce a living wage which is important during times of inflation.

The expertise of our employees cannot be overstated. I’m very proud of our staff and their commitment to providing high quality assistance to our customers.

As talent supply continues to become an increasing concern, CareerSource Brevard stands ready to serve its community today and in the future.
MARCI MURPHY
PRESIDENT, CAREERSOURCE BREVARD
From the Chair
Welcome to CareerSource Brevard’s 2021-2022 year in review.

I am pleased to share this report, complete with program and customer successes that reflect CareerSource Brevard’s business-focused workforce innovation.

In addition to the many services and initiatives we manage daily, these successes are the product of strong relationships with Florida’s elected officials, leaders in education, community services, and emerging industries. As a result of our demonstrated successes in growing and enhancing our local talent pipeline, the Governor has awarded workforce grants to Brevard County for CareerSource Brevard to administer. Together, we are driving Brevard’s economy forward.

Some of the highlights from the year include:

• Job seekers and employers share their stories of success

• 2,068 unique businesses were provided services to advance employee skills, better retain their employees, recruit new talent, and strengthen their bottom line

• 210% increase in CareerSource Brevard-hosted virtual and in-person recruiting events and job fairs - expanding employer’s access to available talent.

• 1,273 veterans were provided with career-focused services and 289 got into better jobs

• 2,377 people placed into employment

Years of unprecedented low unemployment and fewer jobseekers in the pipeline created unique challenges. CareerSource Brevard met those challenges head-on with a data-driven approach and “out of the box” strategies to support talent attraction and retention.

In addition, we drove awareness of services through effective media and public relations, reinforcing CareerSource Brevard as the local authority on workforce development and driving economic opportunity to the Brevard County community.

The heart of CareerSource Brevard is its staff. This dedicated team of professionals drives our reputation of capturing the most effective workforce grants available. Without this high-caliber team, the positive impact on our community as seen through this year’s success, would not be possible.

On behalf of the board of directors, I thank you all for your commitment, dedication, and energy, and we look forward to continuing this very important work.

SUCCESS STORY
JR, Silverhorse Racing
“When our family moved to Brevard County, I was having a hard time looking for jobs, even though I did have manufacturing experience but it was related to a specific product line. What CareerSource provided was very important in making that connection with Silverhorse Racing, setting me up with the proper OJT (On-The-Job Training), so I could learn about tooling, machining and learning from others and the knowledge they have—it’s been amazing.”

Derrick, Artemis IT
“CareerSource Brevard’s On-the-Job Training (OJT) really helped us as an organization to better understand how to onboard new employees. I had no idea that they went so far as to be doing the resume coaching and the mock interviews and the level of preparation that they put into it, the level of care. There was some accountability on our side with the program; we had to provide the training and really structure it more. The next time we add to the team, I have every intention of reusing a lot of what we learned.”

“The CareerSource Brevard resume workshop really helped me to target the specific type of job I wanted.  Even though I was formerly an English professor, I really learned to use my language in a concise way within a resume to make sure it focused on the task of getting the job, or at least getting that interview so I could get in front of somebody to get the job."

SUCCESS STORY
Hannah, Entrepreneur
“I am a single mom, and I remember one day their father just quit paying child support, and I was counting on child support to buy diapers. DCF put me on Temporary Cash Assistance and made me go to CareerSource, which was the most fantastic thing in the world. They actually paid for my schooling through a grant. And with that assistance, I ended up landing a job. Every time somebody is having trouble, I always say go to CareerSource. Honestly, without their help, I don’t know where I would be."
